Pricing Strategies for Meesho's 0% Commission
Meesho is famous for its 0% commission model, which makes it highly attractive. However, "zero commission" does not mean "zero fees." To scale profitably, you must understand logistics and reverse logistics.
Understanding 0% Commission
Unlike other platforms that charge 5% to 15% referral fees, Meesho takes ₹0 as a cut from your sales. This allows you to price your products more competitively. However, you are still responsible for the Logistics (Shipping) fees and the 18% GST applicable on those logistics services.
The Hidden Cost of RTOs
Because Meesho targets Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities heavily with Cash on Delivery (COD), the Return to Origin (RTO) rate can be higher than average. When an order is returned, Meesho charges reverse shipping fees. Our calculator includes an "RTO Buffer" so you can spread this potential loss across all successful sales, protecting your bottom line.
GST on Logistics
Even though there is no commission, the shipping service provided by Meesho’s 3PL partners is a taxable service. You must pay an 18% GST on the shipping fee. You can claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) for this during your GST filing, but it must be factored into your immediate cash flow and pricing structure.
Why Use Reverse Calculation?
If you source a product for ₹200 and want a 20% margin, simply selling it for ₹240 will result in a loss once shipping and taxes are deducted. Reverse calculation takes your target margin and mathematically works backward, adding all platform fees to output the exact "Customer Price" you must list.
